1908 - Confederate Woman's Home opens.

In 1908, the Confederate Woman's Home was established in Austin to provide care for widows, wives, and other women who had supported the Confederacy during the Civil War. Initially, three women were admitted to the home, and by 1909, it housed sixteen residents. Located at 3710 Cedar St., the Confederate Woman's Home in Austin served as a place of refuge for thousands of women throughout its history. The home was originally built to house the widows, wives, and orphans of Confederate soldiers, and it continued to provide support for older wives and widows of Confederate soldiers who were unable to support themselves. Over time, as the number of women with direct ties to the Confederacy decreased, the need for housing dwindled, and the state eventually took over the financial responsibility for the home.

The establishment of the Confederate Woman's Home in 1908 was a testament to the commitment of the United Daughters of the Confederacy to provide care and support for women who had played a significant role in the Confederacy. The home's legacy continues to be honored, and its original site now serves as the present location of AGE of Central Texas, reflecting the enduring impact of the Confederate Woman's Home on the Austin community.
